Perfection – Part 3: Living Out Perfection

Living Out Perfection

I paid for the tree, put it on the jeep and had it tied down.  There were no arguments and no crying, I’m chalking that up as a win.  Lastly, I walked over to claim my treat, a bag of hot kettle corn.  Ah, life’s little pleasures.  As I drove to drop them off, we sang Christmas songs, at times, making up the words when we could not collectively figure them out.  Even threw in Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” in there.  A song Carlitos knows well and a future writing project.

The perfect tree, well, not in the eyes of the performance based mind.  It had a slight flat part I had to make sure stayed toward the wall.  The tip was a bit crooked.  It was the best we came to agreement on.  It was nice and full, with strong branches, and made the living room smell very nice.  Perfection did not come from it being perfect, but from the group’s perfect time together. The spirit of togetherness we created made the imperfect tree perfect.  Was the right team assembled?  Yes, everyone contributed their honest thoughts and everyone came into accord to one choice.  Especially after the 5 minute last call.  And so, in the eyes of all who picked it, including me, the tree was in one word, perfect.  Not perfect on its own merit, but because we “proclaimed” it to be.

I guess my deep and solemn wisdom came through for me ok this time.
